M-KOPA’s mission is to make high quality energy affordable to everyone. OUR GROWTH SO FAR... M-KOPA has connected more than 400,000 homes in Kenya,Tanzania and Uganda to solar power with over 550 new homes being added every day.
Summary
Are you looking for an opportunity to work in a company where progress, and humility are valued as highly as technical excellence? At M-KOPA we use the latest technologies and architectures to build fantastic customer experiences with a socially and environmentally conscious mission that echoes throughout the organisation.
Responsiblities
We are looking for very senior level backend engineers (Senior III Level and above) to join one of the groups here. There are 4 product groups, Repayment, Retention, Application Sales and Portfolio Management.
Repayment for example, is responsible for providing our customers the best possible experience of the financial services M-KOPA offers. This includes providing them with slick and easy to understand payment options, keeping them informed of their progress throughout the course of their loan repayment as well as ensuring that the safeguards we use to incentivise repayment such as controls on device usage are enforced.
Retention look after our repeat business, Sales is where the onboarding comes to play and Portfolio management looks at the tools and software we use to measure our business.
Collaboration
As an engineer in the group you will work as a collaborator, more senior members will coach and contribute placing an emphasis on high quality output observability and monitoring as well as automated testing in all environments, including production. One team in particular uses infrastructure as code demonstrating the unique nature of some of our work.
We foster autonomy inside the teams, while keeping some standards across the company. We use predominantly C# written against the latest .NET stack, and favour microservices hosted on Azure using Kubernetes for all new implementations. We are constantly iterating towards a completely decoupled, event driven architecture across our entire software portfolio.
Remote
Our roles are fully remote, within the following time zone (UTC -1 / UTC+3). Our engineers work remotely from locations such as UK, Europe and Africa.
We have a mix of legacy services and greenfield microservices, so if you love the challenge of improving a legacy codebase while working on new projects, and if working remotely full time appeals, this might be a job for you.
Our expectations are that you would be comfortable working as part of a team which owns the entire software stack, including the supporting infrastructure, throughout the entire software lifecycle from inception, through production and right the way to decommissioning under a DevOps culture.
If you also value the constraints that continuous delivery places upon engineering processes and embrace testing and observability as first order concerns in the development of software, you probably have what it takes to join one of the teams and help shape our future.
