Mycobacteriology Laboratory under the Infectious Diseases Division has focused on studies to diagnose both pulmonary and extrapulmonary Tuberculosis (TB), drug-resistant TB detection, molecular characterisation and transmission of dynamics of TB, TB detection among the vulnerable populations and others.

The Research Assistants will report to the PI/Associate Scientists. The position holders will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing laboratory assay with the objective of conducting high-quality laboratory research. S/he will be responsible for:

• Perform routine laboratory experiments;
• interpretation of tests, Report results, keep records;
• Maintain liaison with project stakeholders and present data in meetings.
• Maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment for their optimum operation and performing minor trouble-shooting;
• Perform laboratory tests based on the direction from the supervisor;
• Prepare report with findings and share with supervisor;
• Discuss with other team members regarding new lab procedure for new research protocol;
• Manuscripts writing and provides inputs to support scientific analysis;
• Analyze data for report writing and report results maintaining confidentiality.
• Use appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) during testing;
• Store samples for future research;
• Train newly hired staff and lab technicians on laboratory procedures;
• Storage and preservation of samples in appropriate condition according to the laboratory equipment maintenance standard;
• Maintain laboratory standards for ISO certification;
• Read the latest literature regarding tests and procedures;
• Review and update the quality assurance manual;
• Train other staff on quality processes;
• Check adherence to quality assurance processes from collection to reception by the laboratory in order to monitor adherence to quality guidelines in laboratory test processes and results.

Required qualifications and experience:

• B.Sc. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology/ Microbiology/Biotechnology from any reputed University
• 1 year of relevant experience in research in the field of microbiology and molecular biology. Candidates with experience in microscopy, culture, drug susceptibility testing, GeneXpert, IGRA test, DNA isolation, PCR, gel electrophoresis, will be given preference.

Location: Dhaka.

Contract Type and duration:

• Short-Term Contractual Service Agreement; duration will be 6 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & benefits:

• Tk.35,867/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
• Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen; Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability
